Medallions Installation

Site: Dubai, United Arab Emirates
Size: 6000 x 6000 mm
Medium: Bronze, Marble
Client: Emaar Properties

Immersed in the heart of the world's largest indoor Gold Souk, under a majestic domed roof within the Burj Khalifa Development in Dubai, lies the Medallions installation. This exceptional corporate artwork, commissioned by Emaar Properties, seamlessly merges traditional cultural motifs with modern aesthetic sensibilities, making it a centrepiece of cultural and artistic celebration.

The Medallions installation features a grand design of eight large decorative bronze medallions encircling an even more oversized central medallion. This main piece offers an intriguing depiction of the interior space in which the artwork is situated, creatively envisioned through a fisheye lens perspective.

The medallions, recessed into a beautiful marble floor at the heart of the domed roof, reflect the rich cultural heritage of the United Arab Emirates. The combination of bronze and marble provides an excellent material juxtaposition, symbolising the strength and elegance of the UAE's history and future.

The Medallions is more than just an installation – it is a narrative, an artistic tribute to a region's rich heritage. The artwork tells a story of time, tradition, and culture with each ornate medallion, inviting visitors to explore and appreciate the intricacies of the UAE's vibrant cultural tapestry. This project represents the harmonious fusion of culture, history, and contemporary art that embodies the spirit of the André Stead Sculpture Institute.
