Zug Swallows
Nestled in the heart of Switzerland, the Zug Swallows installation transforms the spatial dynamics of its environment, embodying the freedom and perpetual pursuit of summer inherent in the flight of swallows. This site-specific artwork underscores two crucial aspects of our approach at the André Stead Sculpture Institute: visual impact and spatial integration.
The design aims to create a sense of movement and flow, seamlessly connecting the upper and lower levels surrounding the installation. We've generated a vibrant colour spectrum by utilising plexiglass in varying shades from white to mid and dark blue. The varying translucency among these colours further introduces an exciting variability in the artwork's light distribution, reflections, and shadows.
Strategically placed light sources interact with the plexiglass to create an immersive experience. As light passes through the coloured materials, it scatters, casting intriguing reflections and shadows on the surrounding environment and enhancing the visual drama of the installation.
The main structure of the Zug Swallows is constructed from marine-grade stainless steel, chosen for its durability and highly polished surface. This reflective surface augments the artwork's visual impact by mirroring the surrounding environment and the installation's vibrant colours.
The Zug Swallows installation is more than just an artistic endeavour; it embodies our commitment to transforming spaces through art. Its integration into its surroundings, the play of light and shadow, and the captivating theme of flight demonstrate our dedication to creating meaningful, engaging, and harmonious art installations.
