Tucked away in the picturesque beachfront property of Rooi-Els, South Africa, the Gateway installation is a breathtaking visual manifestation of our connection to the broader universe and our inner selves. Commissioned by a private collector, this piece integrates seamlessly with its surroundings, drawing the viewer's eye from the pool deck to the expansive ocean view.

The Gateway installation is a meticulously arranged circular array of stainless steel structures reminiscent of a side view of a circular galaxy. At the centre, an 'eye' or hole pierces through the artwork, symbolising the passage between the physical and spiritual realms. This central feature encourages introspection and echoes the underlying theme of our intrinsic connection to the cosmos.

The artwork, mounted on a large black granite base, displays gleaming stainless steel contrasting sharply with its foundation. This contrast mirrors the dichotomy between our tangible world and the ethereal realms of spirituality and the cosmos, reinforcing the piece's underlying themes.

Overlooking the ocean, the Gateway is an exquisite contemporary art piece and a contemplative space. It invites viewers to reflect on their place within the grander universe, constantly reminding them of our interconnectivity with the cosmos and our internal worlds.

At the André Stead Sculpture Institute, we believe in art's power to provoke thought and reflection. The Gateway installation exemplifies this belief, standing as a testament to our commitment to creating artworks that inspire and resonate on a deeper level with viewers. We invite you to explore the Gateway and embark on a journey of self-discovery and cosmic connection.
